Installation Technician
The role will provide construction oversight and hands‑on leadership to all Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) crews and projects, ensuring compliance with specifications, schedule, and budget in accordance with company policies and procedures. The position will direct all other field operatives on site under the direction of the General Manager.
Responsibilities- Provide technical operational direction to company employees and subcontractors on all projects
- Directly manage HDD work operations on up to four separate locations
- Monitors HDD work activities to ensure work operations are being completed safely and efficiently
- Identify, plan, direct, and assist with the selection of HDD tooling, fleet equipment, and auxiliary support equipment for projects
- Monitors the activities of subcontractors or vendors to ensure compliance with specifications and schedules
- Plans, directs, and controls the maintenance of fleet equipment and maintenance documentation
- Provides training to HDD operators to improve skills and proficiency
- Ensures that assigned personnel adhere to and understand safe equipment usage practices and client requirements
- Monitor material consumption and project budget controls
- Establishes and maintains client relationships through proactive communication and professional conduct
- Coordinate trucking of equipment and materials using approved haul roads
- All other duties as assigned by the General Manager
- 10+ years of hands‑on horizontal directional drilling experience
- 5+ years of maxi rig experience
- Industry knowledge of wireline and walkover locating systems
- Industry knowledge of HDD tooling including drill heads, dirt bits, reamers, and rock bits
- Industry knowledge of HDD safety requirements and practices
- Industry knowledge of horizontal drill equipment management work processes and procedures
- Demonstrated leadership in a team‑based environment
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with industry related software (wireline) and walk‑over systems (Subsite) preferred
- Industry knowledge of drilling fluid systems, drilling products and drilling fluid testing procedures
- Ability to read and understand maps, drawings and diagrams for project build process
- Ability to clearly communicate with supervisors and co‑workers
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, machines, equipment
- Ability to learn and gain knowledge
- Ability to follow work orders or receive instructions
- Ability to adhere to and enforce Safety policies and procedures
- Ability to use a computer to complete daily production reports, read and respond professionally to emails and communicate with client representatives onsite
- The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required
- Walking, stepping, climbing or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, involving physically getting into and out of equipment through the use of vertical mounted ladders up to and including 10’ or more in height
- Visually seeing equipment operations well (either naturally or with corrective lenses)
- Standing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, climbing or sitting for long periods of time
- Repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back during performance of work
- Working at elevated heights
- Lifting and carrying 50 lb objects as required
- Adapting to outdoor conditions and prolonged exposure
- Remaining calm during emergencies and responding appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident
- Exposure to working outdoors in all‑weather conditions
- Ability to work more than 40 hours in any given week, including weekend assignments and holidays as required
