Grounds and Maintenance Assistant (Part-Time)

Rocky Mount State Historic Site, a 50-acre historic site and farm, preserves and shares the history of early America as the first capital of the Southwest Territory (1790–1792). Home to historic gardens, fences, and a small flock of sheep, the site’s upkeep is vital to its mission of educating and inspiring visitors. We are seeking a hardworking and reliable individual to assist with groundskeeping and maintenance tasks on a part-time basis.

We are located on 200 Hyder Hill Road, Piney Flats, TN

The Grounds and Maintenance Assistant will work every Monday, either independently or with a small team, to complete various hands‑on tasks that keep Rocky Mount running smoothly. From maintaining gardens to repairing fences, this role supports the site’s historic farm environment and ensures it is ready for visitors, programs, and events.

• Perform outdoor tasks such as gardening, pulling weeds, mowing, and trimming.
• Assist with basic repairs, including resetting fence posts, repairing gates, and minor carpentry.
• Address maintenance tasks related to the farm environment, such as repairing animal enclosures or ensuring pathways are clean and accessible.
• Handle routine cleaning and maintenance, such as carrying out trash and ensuring facilities are functional.
• Operate basic tools and equipment safely to complete assigned tasks.
• Collaborate with other staff or volunteers as needed to complete larger projects.

• A dependable and hardworking individual with a willingness to perform physical labor.
• Basic knowledge of tools, equipment, and minor repairs.
• Ability to work independently and manage tasks efficiently.
• A flexible and positive attitude, with a willingness to take on various tasks as needed.
• Prior experience with groundskeeping, maintenance, or similar work is a plus but not required.

• Hours: Part‑time, 1–2 days per week
• Schedule: Every Monday, 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, and every other Thursday during the same hours.
• Working the majority of Mondays is essential, but we are flexible if you need time off or need to adjust your schedule to another day occasionally.
• Excluding holidays.

We are closed during January and February; however, hours may still be available during this time for certain tasks or projects.

Hourly rate based on experience.
