The Building Maintenance Engineer at the American National Red Cross supports mission-driven operations by ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient facilities for staff, volunteers, and clients. In the Engineering, Maintenance & Asset Management team, you perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life-safety systems across Red Cross buildings. You'll coordinate vendors, respond to urgent building issues, maintain accurate maintenance records, and support energy-efficiency and building improvement projects.
This role requires strong technical skills, attention to safety, and a commitment to humanitarian values.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems in Red Cross facilities.
- Troubleshoot and repair building systems to minimize downtime and ensure occupant safety and comfort.
- Conduct regular facility inspections, documenting issues and corrective actions in maintenance systems.
- Coordinate and oversee outside contractors and vendors for specialized repairs and projects.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and asset records using CMMS or similar tools.
- Respond to urgent building issues, on-call needs, or after-hours emergencies as required.
- Support compliance with safety, fire, and building codes, and participate in safety audits and inspections.
- Recommend and help implement energy-efficiency and facility improvement projects.
- Collaborate with operations, disaster response, and program teams to ensure facilities support mission delivery.
- Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, and humanitarian service in all maintenance activities.
