The Facility Engineer at the American National Red Cross supports our humanitarian mission by ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of buildings and critical systems. Reporting to Facilities, Maintenance & Asset Management, this role oversees HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life-safety, and building automation systems across assigned facilities. The engineer plans and manages preventive maintenance, coordinates vendors, supports capital projects, and responds to facility emergencies.

This position partners with operations and disaster response teams to maintain resilient, code-compliant facilities that support blood services, training, and disaster relief operations.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, operate, and maintain HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life-safety systems across assigned facilities.
  • Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs to maximize uptime and asset life.
  • Support and coordinate facility-related capital projects, renovations, and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Ensure compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and Red Cross standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve building system issues; respond to after-hours facility emergencies as needed.
  • Manage vendor and contractor work, including scopes, scheduling, and quality control.
  • Collaborate with operations and disaster response teams to maintain mission-ready facilities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, maintenance logs, and as-built drawings for all critical systems.
  • Identify and implement energy-efficiency and sustainability improvements.
  • Support continuity of operations planning for critical facilities and systems.
