As a Maintenance Engineer at the American National Red Cross, you will ensure the safe, reliable operation of facilities that support lifesaving services and disaster response. You'll perform preventive and corrective maintenance on building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety), coordinate vendors, and respond to urgent repairs to keep sites mission-ready. Partnering with Facilities and Operations, you'll support inspections, asset management, and regulatory compliance while promoting a safe, inclusive environment for staff, volunteers, donors, and the communities we serve.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life-safety systems to ensure facility reliability.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests to minimize downtime and support critical Red Cross operations.
  • Conduct routine inspections of buildings, systems, and equipment, documenting findings and following up on corrective actions.
  • Use a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to receive, prioritize, and close work orders accurately and on time.
  • Coordinate and oversee outside contractors and vendors, ensuring work meets safety, quality, and compliance standards.
  • Assist with asset management, including equipment inventories, lifecycle planning, and replacement recommendations.
  • Support regulatory, safety, and environmental compliance, including NFPA, OSHA, and local building codes.
  • Collaborate with Facilities, Operations, and program teams to schedule work with minimal disruption to services.
  • Monitor building performance and recommend improvements to energy efficiency, comfort, and reliability.
  • Promote a culture of safety, inclusion, and mission-focus in all facilities and maintenance activities.
