Laborer VI — Fleet Equipment Technician

The Forest Preserve District of Will County is accepting applications for a Full Time Laborer VI
- Fleet Equipment Technician at the Operations and Law Enforcement Facility in Joliet. This position is responsible for the maintenance and repairs to District vehicles and equipment. As part of the interview process, each applicant will be required to take a basic written skills test that will include all aspects of automotive repair.

The Laborer VI salary is $37.48 per hour. The normal work shift will be Monday through Friday. The hours of work will be 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. See the attached Job Description outlining duties, skills, abilities, training, experiences, and working conditions. Under the direction of the Fleet Supervisor or Shop Manager, this employee maintains and repairs all District owned vehicles and equipment.

• Perform preventative maintenance inspections
• Maintain and repair all District equipment including but not limited to trucks, automobiles, tractors; mowing equipment, trailers and police vehicles
• Accurately complete all necessary inspection forms and repair orders
• Diagnosis and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems including automotive computer drivability problems
• Dress in a proper uniform as provided by the District
• Demonstrate correct usage and maintenance procedures to operators and other users of equipment.
• Install accessories including but not limited to 2-way radios, trailer hitches, emergency lights, police equipment and toolboxes
• Repair, weld or fabricate any preserve or field equipment including but not limited to gates, fences, buildings or docks
• Perform other duties as assigned or required

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Minimum of four years experience as an automotive, truck or grounds equipment technician
• Must be certified by Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) in four areas
• Requires obtaining and holding a valid CDL driver’s license
• Requires skills in the use of an oxygen/acetylene torch
• Requires the ability to stick arc weld
• Good physical condition and able to lift 50 lb.
