Position Summary:

The Institutional Services Assistant is responsible for general cleaning of areas in and around office buildings, classrooms, lecture halls, conference rooms, auditoriums, resident halls, dining areas, building common areas, and other areas as required. This role is governed by state and federal laws and institutional policy.

• Remove trash from waste baskets, dump trash, sanitize and re-line trash receptacles daily or as needed; operate trash compactors; wipe furniture (e.g., desk tops, tables) and other surfaces; clean walls, windows, window sills, stairways, and entryways as needed.
• Sweep, mop, buff floors; vacuum floors daily; shampoo carpets; clean baseboards; dust and/or wipe clean furniture, desks, table tops, cabinets, ceiling fans, black/white boards, appliances, fixtures; strip, wax, and buff floors as scheduled or when needed.
• Clean bathroom fixtures; stock restrooms with soap, toilet tissue, and paper towels; clean areas requiring special cleaning methods using specific cleansers; sterilize equipment; dispose of contaminated wastes; assist in setup of events and cleaning after events.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of basic cleaning techniques.
• Knowledge of cleaning equipment operation and maintenance.
• Ability to follow instructions and perform repetitive manual work.
• Ability to use cleansers and other agents to clean floors and furniture.
• Ability to use housekeeping cleaning supplies and equipment.
• Ability to work independently without close supervision.
• Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions.
• Ability to perform multiple tasks and prioritize assignments.
• Ability to perform repetitive manual work and lift up to 50 lbs.

Shifts vary based on open position.

Preferred to have a valid driver’s license.

The formal education equivalent of a High School Diploma. Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval or the qualifications review committee.
