Description

Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of city property.
Examples of Duties

• Help maintain city property, streets, utilities, and any other city property that needs attention under direct supervision.
• Sweeps, washes, paints, and repairs or replaces city property as directed.
• Performs custodial work such as required and assigned.
• Collects and disposes of solid waste from city property; picks up litter from premises.
• Assists in setting up and taking down equipment for various programs, prepares facilities for use.
• Other duties as assigned.

Primary Goals and Objectives:

• Complete tasks assigned by supervisors.
• Ensure effective and efficient use of time.

Typical Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age
• Any equivalent combination of related education and experience
• Skill in operation of:
  Lawn and landscaping equipment, mowers, miscellaneous hand and power tools for maintenance.
• Ability to: work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule; lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions; communicate orally and in writing; use equipment and tools properly and safely; understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.

Physical Demands

• Frequently required to walk and stand for extended periods of time*
• Ability to frequently lift and or move up to 50 lbs.*
• May occasionally lift weights up to 100 lbs.*
• Ability to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, and operate objects, tools and controls*
• Occasionally will climb, balance, stoop, crouch, kneel and crawl. *
• Must have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. *
• Ability to speak and hear and communicate effectively*

• Frequently works near moving mechanical parts
• Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions to include frequent exposure to heat or cold, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals.
• Frequently works in heavy traffic areas and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
• Noise levels in the work environment are frequently loud.
