Position Title: Heavy Duty Mechanic – Rural ARFF – Advanced Journey
Position Summary: Professionally maintain heavy construction and maintenance equipment for state highways, secondary roads, and rural airports. The role involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide variety of heavy trucks and equipment, including electronic and mechanical systems, and working in both shop and remote settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and repair heavy construction and maintenance equipment for highways, secondary roads, and rural airports.
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide variety of heavy trucks and equipment, including electronic and mechanical systems.
- Resolve complex and unusual equipment problems using a variety of techniques.
- Perform routine and specialized maintenance in shop or remote settings on diverse equipment from multiple manufacturers.
- Operate equipment for service and correctly diagnose problems not specified in programs.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including design, use, repair, and maintenance.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing conditions and new information.
- Knowledge of vehicle engines, parts, and systems.
- Strong self‑management, initiative, and commitment to timely completion of assignments.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and self‑motivate.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Steel‑toed boots or equivalent protective footwear.
- 40‑hour Emergency Trauma Treatment (ETT) course completed.
- 40‑hour Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) training, including medical evaluation and fit test for self‑contained breathing apparatus.
- Proficiency in operating heavy equipment.
- Knowledge and handling of firearms and ammunition.
- Ability to perform ARFF duties in support of Part 139.
- Must supply own hand tools; will receive a bi‑weekly tool allowance of $69.23.
