Interpretive Hiking Guide

The Interpretive Hiking Guide position offers guests who visit Denali an opportunity to experience the surroundings in a more intimate manner than many of the larger group activities offered. The guide will act as a personal interpreter on the Denali area’s cultural, historical and natural resources while providing support to guests eager to experience the outdoor environment.

Location:

Denali Park Village Hotel, just 7 miles south of Denali National Park entrance. Position dates:
May 24 – September 7, 2026. Competitive wages, on‑site housing, on‑site gym, and inclusive meal plan available.

Job Responsibilities

• Lead guests of all ages on organized and informative excursions.
• Educate self on local ecology, geology, history, and culture to interpret these aspects for guests.
• Receive assignment the day before the hike is scheduled.
• Report for the work shift ready for the hike with essential gear from the Safety and Operations manual.
• Ensure gear is in good condition and depart for pick‑up/meeting assignments.
• Double‑check that the First Aid kit and emergency cell phone are on person.
• Greet each guest, brief them on the plans, present the Acknowledgment of Risk form, and collect necessary vouchers or tickets.
• Give a detailed safety briefing and assess each guest’s ability to participate.
• Conduct the activity, maintaining control and leadership, and provide interpretive knowledge.
• Perform Support Staff duties when hikes or other interpretive activities are not scheduled.
• Capable of safely operating a 15‑passenger van on local roads and highways; trained in required procedures and paperwork.
• Know and comply with all company policies regarding safety, security, emergencies, and energy.
• Report to work on time in complete uniform.

Qualifications

• Training in First Aid protocols such as Wilderness First Responder, Wilderness Advanced First Aid, Wilderness EMT, or EMT/Paramedic preferred.
• Multi‑lingual skills a plus.
• Extensive experience guiding in the same or related environment.
• Ability to sit, stand, and walk for varied amounts of time.
• Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Availability to work flexible hours.

This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. Uniforms and/or Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required.
