Responsibilities
The Environmental Services Floor Technician is responsible for maintaining a high level of cleanliness within the hospital and adjacent buildings, traveling between facilities as needed. The role includes stripping, waxing, refinishing hard surface flooring, carpet extracting, bonnet buffing, restorative ceramic tile cleaning, and other assigned tasks.
- Perform routine cleaning of floors in a neat and sanitary manner.
- Mop, sweep, scrub, and strip floors; apply sealers and finishes.
- Vacuum traffic areas and remove visible debris from carpets.
- Spot clean carpets using extraction and bonneting methods.
- Maintain hard floors without buildup in corners and use dust mops.
- Polish floors with buffing products to restore high gloss uniform appearance.
- Keep equipment clean, operative, and secure with safety signs.
- Report safety hazards.
- Lock and unlock doors and windows to offices and other rooms; turn off lights as needed.
- Work day, evening, or night shift as assigned.
- Work independently with normal supervision.
- Observe safety precautions at all times.
- Perform related work as directed.
- At the end of the shift, leave equipment clean and ready to use, including cleaning materials.
- One (1) year of knowledge within acute care hospital environmental service techniques, practices, and procedures required; preferably two years of Floor Tech experience in a healthcare setting.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
- Ability to read, understand, and communicate effectively.
- Ability to understand written and verbal instructions.
- Apply common sense to follow provided instructions.
- Must be able to communicate and understand English.
St. Mary's Hospital - Kankakee offers competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package. The estimated compensation for this role ranges from $16.60 to $23.00 per hour, including wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation. The exact starting compensation will be determined at time of selection, considering skillset, experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
