Job Summary
The Operations Specialist performs skilled work in several areas of the Facilities Maintenance Department. Depending upon the specific duties, this position may report to a Facilities Maintenance Crew Chief, or Facilities Maintenance Supervisor and works under general supervision sufficient to monitor progress and assess achievement of key performance indicators.

The Operations Specialist performs skilled work in several areas of the Facilities Maintenance Department. Depending upon the specific duties, this position may report to a Facilities Maintenance Crew Chief, or Facilities Maintenance Supervisor and works under general supervision sufficient to monitor progress and assess achievement of key performance indicators.
General Statement of DutiesPerforms skilled work in focused and concentrated areas of the Facilities Maintenance Department.
Distinguishing Features of the ClassUnder general supervision an employee in this class performs skilled work such as Train Operator;
Splash Pad Operator;
Building Attendants, AV and Technical Operators, Shuttle Operator, Bus Driver, Athletic Specialist, or Concessions Supervisors. An employee in this class performs related work as required.
- Opening and closing of city facilities during rentals, meetings, and programs
- Handling all aspects of facility rentals, including, but not limited to, room set-up and tear-down, audio-visual needs in some facilities, ensuring security of other areas of building.
- Communicating with users to address needs and accommodating users within departmental guidelines.
- Enforcing policies and procedures during rental and meeting times
- Ensuring smooth transitions between users and addressing specific needs to each user
- Performs general custodial duties including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, restocking of restroom supplies, and emptying trash and recycling.
- Enforces rules and regulations at parks and facilities.
- Performs routine cleaning and custodial duties.
- Performs related tasks as required.
REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Working and detailed knowledge of the specific operation in one or more of the concentrated areas of this position is required. Some supervisory experience is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and training. Must be certified in First Aid and CPR or have the ability to pass certification course. Must have the ability to get along well with others; and the ability to work unusual hours, especially nights and weekends.
Must pass a criminal background check.
High school graduate or GED; must be at least 18 years of age. Valid NC driver's license or ability to obtain prior to hire and a safe driving history is also required. Applicants for this position must be at least 18 years old.
Special Requirements- If operating a City vehicle a NC Class C drivers’ license is required for the entire duration of employment.
- 2C positions require a minimum of 10 hours/week
JOB RELATED PHYSICAL ACTIVY REQUIREMENTS:
This is work requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires reaching, walking, stooping, crouching, standing, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word;
hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
Benefits for part time employees are limited based on part time status.
