Position: BUILDING MAINTENANCE WORKER I - KAUAI

The immediate vacancy is with the Department of Transportation, Harbors Division, located in Lihue. The immediate vacancy may be closed at any time. The notice of the last day to file applications will be posted on the State of Hawaii's Civil Service Job Opportunities Listing page of our website.

This position independently performs a variety of skilled building maintenance and repair work as a regular and continuing work assignment; may supervise one or more building maintenance helpers or other helpers assisting in the work; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Legal Authorization to Work: Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
  • Experience and Training: Four (4) years of work experience in performing a variety of building maintenance repair work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Driver's License: A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
  • Special Requirement: Ability to lift and carry objects of various weights with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Clearance: Persons considered for employment in positions that require unescorted access to secured areas at the harbor must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint-based criminal history record check. The clearance will be granted only if no disqualifying conviction within seven years from date of appointment. The applicant will be responsible for the record check cost; upon hire, the employee will be reimbursed provided the TWIC receipt is submitted to the supervisor.
