Help Maintain a Safe and Supportive Environment at Cedarcrest
The Maintenance Assistant plays an important role in supporting Cedarcrest’s mission by helping maintain a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for the children we serve, their families, and our staff. Working alongside the Facilities Manager, the Maintenance Assistant supports daily facility operations through preventative maintenance, repairs, inspections, grounds care, and equipment upkeep.
The Maintenance Assistant is a hands‑on position for someone who enjoys problem‑solving, working with their hands, and taking pride in keeping a facility running smoothly. Through their work, the Maintenance Assistant helps ensure Cedarcrest remains a safe and supportive environment where children can receive care, participate in daily activities, and thrive.
Responsibilities- Assist with routine preventative maintenance of the facility, equipment, and grounds to ensure a safe and reliable environment.
- Complete daily building and grounds inspections, identify maintenance needs, and assist with follow‑up procedures as needed.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance tasks, including generator testing, fire extinguisher inspections, emergency light inspections, and other safety checks.
- Assist with maintaining and monitoring facility systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning controls, and other equipment.
- Maintain accurate documentation of preventative maintenance activities, repairs, and completed work.
- Assist with reviewing maintenance requests, completing repairs, and coordinating with vendors when additional support is needed.
- Complete minor repairs, building projects, painting projects, and general maintenance throughout the interior and exterior of the facility.
- Assist with repairing, modifying, and maintaining specialized equipment used by Nursing, Therapy, and Education teams.
- Assist with maintaining residents’ equipment as assigned or requested.
- Provide support to the Facilities Manager and serve as a backup resource when needed.
- Provide emergency maintenance support during evenings and weekends as available.
- Complete daily vehicle inspections using established checklists and report any concerns.
- Assist with vehicle maintenance, including scheduling necessary service, refueling, and maintaining cleanliness.
- Perform outdoor maintenance of lawns, gardens, and the exterior of the facility.
- Assist with seasonal grounds maintenance, including snow removal, plowing, sanding, salting, and ice removal during winter months.
- Respond promptly to safety concerns and complete appropriate follow‑up procedures.
- Assist with fire drills and other life safety programs as directed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard‑free work environment.
- Participate in safety inspections and contribute to Cedarcrest’s safety initiatives.
- Assist with deliveries, business‑related errands, and other facility needs as assigned.

Qualifications- Minimum of four years of experience in facilities maintenance or a related field.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Tank Operator Certification through the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NH DES).
- General knowledge and experience with mechanical systems, electrical work, plumbing, painting, and carpentry.
- Ability to safely operate a variety of hand tools and equipment.
- Experience with outdoor maintenance, including snow removal, plowing, and lawn care.
- Valid driver’s license with a clear driving record.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to complete electronic documentation preferred.
