Maintenance Assistant
Help keep Cedarcrest safe, comfortable, and running smoothly.
Are you a hands-on problem solver who enjoys fixing things, working with equipment, and seeing the results of your work? Cedarcrest is looking for a Maintenance Assistant to join our Facilities team and play an important role in creating a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for the children and staff we serve.
As a Maintenance Assistant, you’ll work closely with the Facilities Manager to maintain our buildings, grounds, vehicles, equipment, and mechanical systems. Every day can look a little different—you might troubleshoot a repair, complete preventative maintenance, care for our grounds, assist with specialized equipment, or help prepare the campus for winter.

- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on building systems and equipment, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical systems.
- Complete scheduled inspections of fire extinguishers, emergency lights, generators, and other safety equipment.
- Assist with wheelchair, positioning, and other specialized equipment maintenance.
- Monitor the HVAC computer system and maintain electronic maintenance records.
- Respond promptly to safety concerns and maintenance requests.
- Complete minor repairs, painting projects, and interior and exterior building projects.

- Coordinate with outside vendors when repairs or services require additional expertise.
- Serve as a backup to the Facilities Manager when needed.
- Complete daily vehicle inspections, refueling, cleaning, and routine maintenance.
- Schedule necessary vehicle service and follow up on maintenance concerns.
- Maintain lawns, gardens, and the exterior of the facility.
- Perform winter maintenance, including plowing, sanding/salting, and snow and ice removal, including occasional nights and weekends.
- Participate in fire drills, life-safety programs, safety inspections, and the Safety Committee.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
- Assist with emergency coverage during evenings and weekends as available.
- Assist with deliveries and processing incoming materials.
- Complete business-related errands.
- Support the Facilities team with other projects and responsibilities as assigned.
We're looking for a Maintenance Assistant who is dependable, safety-minded, resourceful, and comfortable getting their hands dirty. The ideal candidate enjoys figuring out how things work and takes pride in keeping things in good working order.
You’ll be a great fit if you:
- Have experience in general maintenance, facilities, construction, mechanical work, or a related field.
- Have basic knowledge of—or an interest in learning about—electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical systems.
- Are a strong problem solver who can work independently and as part of a team.
- Are organized and able to prioritize multiple requests and projects.
- Take pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and professional work environment.
- Are comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Have a valid driver’s license.
You may not provide direct care, but the work you do makes that care possible. From keeping our equipment functioning and our vehicles safe to maintaining a comfortable living environment and clearing snow from our campus, the work of our Maintenance Assistant directly supports the children, families, and staff at Cedarcrest.
If you’re looking for a hands-on position where your work has a meaningful impact every day, we’d love to have you join our team.
