Coating Technician - Red Dog Mine, AK - Rotational

Job Description

Cleans, abrasive blast & sprays surfaces of manufactured products with cleaning and protective or decorative material such as paint, enamel, glaze, gel‑coat, or lacquer by performing the following duties.

• Cleans grease and dirt from products
• Removes rust from metal surfaces with blasting agents
• Applies masking tape over parts and areas that are not to be coated.
• Fills cavities and dents with putty to attain smooth surface.
• Selects and mixes coating liquid to produce desired color.
• Pours coating liquid into spray container and connects gun to air hose.
• Turns sprayer valves and nozzle to regulate width and pressure of spray.
• Pulls trigger and directs spray onto work surface to apply prime or finish coat.
• Coats areas inaccessible to hand sprayer with brush or other means.
• Cleans spraying equipment and brushes with solvent.
• Immediately reports all incidents/accidents, no matter how small, to their Supervisor.
• This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
• Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success may be assigned.

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent or ten (10) years related experience will be considered.
• Minimum two (2) years directly related experience.
• Plural component spray application experience.
• Alaska Painters Certification required.
• Reliable transportation to get to job site.
• Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy preferred.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to airborne particles and outdoor weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of radiation and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.

The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.

walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and taste or smell. Steel‑toed boots required on the job.
