OPENED TO FILL VACANCIES AS THEY OCCUR.
40 HOURS PER WEEK POSITION
Public WorksResponsibilities:
- Clean and repair drains,culverts, and street ditches.
- Lay tack, shovel, rake, and roll asphalt; lay pipes for drainage.
- Level grounds and maintain gardens, palm trees, and sprinkler systems.
- Operate dump trucks, rollers, backhoes, jackhammers, weed eaters, hedge trimmers, chainsaws, and blowers.
- Remove debris and trash from drains and grounds; respond to citizens’ calls.
- Maintain journals and all necessary records, including work orders, calls on the radio, vehicle sign‑ins/sign‑outs, and material lists.
- Refer to schedules, maps, policies, procedures, codes, laws, and reference texts as required.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in performing asphalt, repair, and maintenance work on sewer lines, aprons, and walkways.
- Flushing and smoke‑testing sewer lines; operating wastewater equipment.
- Lay pipes for sewerage, level grounds, and operate dump trucks.
- Operate and maintain equipment associated with the operation of a wastewater collection system.
- Verify and report suspected malfunctions, take corrective action, and accurately complete all equipment work orders.
- Perform cleanup and housekeeping tasks for work area, tools, and equipment.
- Interact and communicate with foremen, equipment operators, truck drivers, coworkers, and the general public.
Responsibilities:
- Perform maintenance and construction tasks on streets, parks, and recreational areas, both individually and in crews.
- Operate a variety of equipment and drive vehicles used by the department.
- Maintain records and reports such as supply lists, leave requests, and call reports.
- Use a variety of tools and communicate with foremen, coworkers, office personnel, and the public.
- For Public Works: 9 to 12 months of construction operation experience or equivalent education, training, and experience.
- For Wastewater:
High school diploma or GED equivalent and 9 to 12 months of construction operation experience or equivalent education, training, and experience. - Valid Louisiana driver’s license required for all positions.
- All positions require a current, valid Louisiana driver’s license.
- Some positions may require high‑class licenses (Classes A, B, C, or
D) due to the vehicles operated.
Vacancies will be filled selectively based on the required license and education for each position. Non‑competitive hiring is used; candidates meeting the minimum qualifications and any necessary selective criteria will be certified to the vacancy.
