About the RoleThe Day Porter plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of commercial or residential properties during daytime hours. This position ensures that all common areas, entrances, and facilities are clean, well-stocked, and presentable to visitors, tenants, and staff. The Day Porter is responsible for promptly addressing any maintenance or cleanliness issues that arise throughout the day, contributing to a positive environment and enhancing the reputation of the property.
This role requires a proactive approach to identifying potential hazards or areas needing attention, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. Ultimately, the Day Porter supports the smooth operation of the facility by providing a clean, safe, and welcoming atmosphere for all occupants and guests.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Basic knowledge of cleaning procedures and safety protocols.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
- Previous experience in janitorial or porter services.
- Familiarity with cleaning equipment and chemicals.
- Basic maintenance skills or experience.
- Good communication skills to interact with staff and visitors.
- Ability to work flexible hours if needed.
- Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, and trash removal in lobbies, hallways, restrooms, and other common areas.
- Monitor and replenish supplies in restrooms and other designated areas to ensure availability for occupants and visitors.
- Respond promptly to spills, debris, or other hazards to maintain a safe environment and prevent accidents.
- Assist with minor maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, reporting repair needs, and setting up or moving furniture as required.
- Communicate effectively with property management and other staff to report issues, coordinate tasks, and ensure high standards of cleanliness and safety.
The Day Porter uses their cleaning and maintenance skills daily to ensure all areas of the property are tidy and safe, applying knowledge of proper cleaning techniques and safety standards. Physical stamina and attention to detail are essential for performing repetitive tasks efficiently and identifying areas that require immediate attention. Communication skills are important for coordinating with management and reporting issues promptly, ensuring smooth operations.
Time management skills help the Day Porter prioritize tasks to cover all responsibilities within the work shift. Additionally, problem-solving skills are utilized when addressing unexpected situations such as spills or equipment malfunctions to maintain a safe environment.
