Work Hours / Duration
- This position will offer up to 40 hours per week for a limited 6-month season. Work hours set by location.
- This is a temporary position and is not benefit-eligible.
Responsibilities
- Maintains state highway systems: filling roadway joints and cracks, patching potholes; flagging and directing traffic; loading, unloading, spreading, and hauling materials and supplies; cutting and clearing brush; removing trash and debris from roadsides; cleaning and clearing ditches.
- Maintains, cleans, and repairs state highway facilities: cleaning curbs and gutters; painting buildings and equipment; servicing equipment and machinery.
- May perform roadside duties: mowing and spraying; planting grass seed, trees, flowers, or shrubbery; pruning and removal of trees; operating tree transplanter, chipping brush and removing debris.
- Cleans and performs routine maintenance on vehicles, equipment, buildings and grounds.
- May install or remove pavement markings and clean striping equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Driver's License
- High School Diploma or GED/HiSET obtained within 12 months of hire
- Class B CDL exam with tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions, and interstate status (either Excepted Interstate [EI] or Non-Excepted Interstate [NI]) obtained within 12 months of hire
- Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical-physical examination
Special Working Conditions
- Job requires significant physical stamina and endurance, including ability to move materials by hand, operate hand tools, and perform stationary flagging.
- Job requires outdoor work with exposure to physical hazards, health and safety risks, or adverse environmental characteristics, including risk of physical injury from carrying out duties in heavy traffic areas, on or near heavy equipment or machinery, and with hazardous chemicals or materials.
- Job may require overtime and nighttime work.
