Job DescriptionThe person in this position will perform general labor tasks assisting custodians, maintenance, warehouse personnel and groundskeepers throughout the district. Responsibilities include moving furniture, general cleaning, assisting in maintenance of facilities and grounds, hauling materials and supplies, working indoors and outdoors in hot weather, and other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist custodians in preparing classrooms and other areas for deep cleaning.
- Move furniture into and out of classrooms.
- Assist groundskeepers in maintaining fields and district properties.
- Perform basic repairs when needed.
- Handle, move and dispose of materials, trash, equipment, furniture, sand, gravel, rocks, etc.
- Perform any other task as required by the supervisor, lead worker, or administration related to this job classification.
- Work closely with the assigned lead and the Buildings and Grounds Manager.
- Report problem areas and safety hazards in or on school facilities.
- Coordinate with other employees and trades to accomplish work efficiently and safely.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to perform all responsibilities listed under Essential Duties and Responsibilities, General Requirements, Physical Demands, and Work Environment.
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedures.
- Basic math skills: add, subtract, multiply, divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Comply with district board policies and established programs.
- Ability to operate computers and a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Self-starter and problem-solving ability.
- Assess and correct safety issues.
- Work flexible hours, respond to emergencies, willingness to work overtime.
- Physically able to lift >35 lbs., squat, bend, stoop, climb ladders, etc.
- Dependable, punctual with positive evaluations and recommendations.
- Organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
- Estimate scope of work and materials needed, make cost estimates.
- Maintain professional relationships with employees, shop leads, district staff, and administrators.
- Approach work professionally, promoting teamwork, pride in service delivery, and continuous improvement.
- Must pass a background check, including employee-paid fingerprinting, prior to start of work.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must meet the physical demands of the position.
- Completion of Safe Schools Web-based training is required prior to starting work and yearly thereafter.
- Must pass a post-offer, pre-employment physical capacity exam.
- Language skills: read and understand instructions; present information effectively and respond to questions.
- Mathematical skills: add, subtract, multiply, divide whole numbers, fractions and decimal numbers; calculate percentages, discounts, proportions, area, circumference and volume.
- Reasoning ability: interpret variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Physical Demands: Regular lifting of up to 50 lbs., frequent lifting of up to 100 lbs., occasional lifting over 100 lbs.; mobility, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing ladders; use of hands to handle objects; hearing and vision requirements.
Work Environment: Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, wet/humid conditions, airborne particles, chemicals, extreme heat/cold, vibration, moderate to loud noise requiring hearing protection.
