Assistant Lead Custodian / Swing Shift – Kamiakin High School

Starting date:
Immediately.

Hours:

8 Hours per Day, 260 Days per Year (Swing Shift additional $.20/hr).

Salary: $23.30 - $27.58 per hour, plus swing shift premium.

Qualifications Required
  • Minimum one year of experience as a Building Custodian or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated high degree of skill and knowledge expected of a Building Custodian.
  • Willingness to comply with district board policies and programs.
  • Self‑starter; initiative.
  • Ability to operate computers for timecard entry and CMMS work orders.
  • Command of English for verbal and written communication.
  • Basic math calculations.
  • Follow administrative procedures and board policies.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Attend required trainings and meetings.
  • Assess and correct safety issues.
  • Establish cooperative relationships with students, parents, staff and management.
  • Professional mindset, teamwork, pride and continuous improvement.
  • Organize and prioritize to meet deadlines.
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs regular, 100 lbs frequent, over 100 lbs occasional, squat, bend, carry, climb ladders.
  • Dependable, punctual, good attendance.
  • Available for overtime after school and weekends.
  • Ability to refinish classroom resilient floors, carpets, gym wood floors.
  • Basic computer use for records and email.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with building personnel and custodial team to ensure smooth swing shift operation.
  • Support night activities and other lead coordinations.
  • Communicate with building administrator, principal and other staff regarding needs.
  • Fill in for lead/day custodian when absent.
  • Perform housekeeping duties meeting quality and quantity expectations.
  • Order supplies and stock closets.
  • Ensure adequate cleaning equipment.
  • Assist custodial staff and support safe, sanitary facility.
  • Support lunch program set‑up and clean‑up.
  • Lock and unlock facility.
  • Submit substitute custodial evaluation forms.
  • Monthly fire extinguisher inspection; generate work orders.
  • Follow district policies, attendance, punctuality.
  • Create and implement preventive maintenance / asset preservation calendar.
  • Perform minor maintenance: light replacement, ceiling tiles, dispensers, flag holders, utilities, filters.
  • Assist in summer and break cleaning schedules.
  • Respond to teacher/principal requests promptly.
  • Maintain grounds: flower beds, sidewalks, garbage cans.
  • Ensure entrance cleanliness daily.
  • Move facilities, classroom and office as directed.
  • Perform snow and ice removal.
  • Maintain carpet and resilient flooring.
  • Generate work orders in work‑order system.
  • Work with leads to ensure timely completion.
  • Respond to after‑hour emergencies.
  • Coordinate with vendors, inspectors, contractors.
  • Assist with special programs and activities.
  • Use power and hand tools for floor, wall, carpet and furniture upkeep.
  • Work in crew on non‑student days.
  • Mentor new team members.
  • Conduct integrated pest management.
  • Model professional adult behavior; politeness and civility.
  • Perform duties assigned by supervisor.
General Requirements
  • Language skills: read, write, email, present information.
  • Mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, proportions, area, circumference, volume.
  • Reasoning ability: define problems, collect data, draw conclusions, interpret instructions.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Mobility: use hands, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl.
  • Senses: listen, communicate, occasional taste or smell, vision requirements.
  • Lifting: 50 lbs regular, 100 lbs frequent, over 100 lbs occasional.
  • Hazards: moving mechanical parts, weather, electrical shock risk, wet/humid conditions, chemicals, extreme temperatures, vibration, noise; hearing protection may be required.
