Job DescriptionGeneral labor tasks assisting custodians, maintenance, warehouse personnel, and groundskeepers in the District. Tasks include moving furniture, cleaning facilities and grounds, hauling materials, working in hot weather, and other duties as assigned.
Conditions of Employment- Must pass a background check which includes employee-paid fingerprinting, required prior to start of work.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position.
- Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training is a required condition of employment, due prior to starting work and yearly thereafter.
- Must pass a post-offer, pre-employment, physical capacity exam.
- Must be able to perform all responsibilities listed under "Essential Duties and Responsibilities", "General Requirements", "Physical Demands", and "Work Environment".
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, procedures and other relevant information.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Willingness to comply with district board policies and established programs.
- Evidence of ability to operate computers and a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Evidence of ability to be a self-starter with a demonstrated ability to problem-solve.
- The ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
- Ability to work flexible hours at times, respond to emergencies, willingness to work overtime.
- Physically able to do the required work, including heavy and sustained lifting of more than 35 lbs., squatting, bending, stooping, carrying, climbing ladders, and other physically demanding functions.
- Show a history of dependability and punctuality, along with positive evaluations and recommendations.
- Evidence of ability to organize and prioritize in order to meet the district’s needs and deadlines.
- Evidence of ability to determine the scope of work and materials needed, and make cost estimates for projects.
- Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative, and effective relationship with fellow employees, shop lead persons, district staff, and administrators.
- Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.
- Assist custodians in preparing classrooms and other areas for deep cleaning.
- Move furniture into and out of classrooms.
- Assist groundskeepers in maintaining fields and other District properties.
- Perform basic repairs when needed.
- Handle, move and dispose of materials, trash, equipment, furniture, sand, gravel, rocks, etc.
- Perform any other task as may be required by the supervisor, lead worker, and/or administration.
- Perform all duties within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.
- Work closely with, and communicate with, the assigned lead and the Buildings and Grounds Manager.
- Report problem areas and safety hazards in or on school facilities.
- Provide assistance to and/or coordinate with other employees and trades to achieve high quality and quantity of work in the least amount of time.
- Perform other related jobs and duties as assigned.
Physical Demands
:
The employee must use hands to handle objects and may sit, stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must lift up to 50 pounds regularly, up to 100 pounds frequently, and occasionally over 100 pounds.
Work Environment
:
Often works near moving mechanical parts; in outdoor weather; exposed to wet, humid conditions, airborne particles, chemicals, extreme temperatures and vibration. Noise level usually moderate but may be loud requiring hearing protection.
