The Custodian performs a variety of janitorial tasks in the care of Kenosha County’s buildings and grounds and maintains a safe and clean environment for staff. These employees may be assigned to work at any of our campuses:
Civic Center, Public Safety Building, Detention Center, Job Center, County Center, or Brookside Care Center.
2026 Hiring Range: $20.72 – $23.54 per hour

- 2nd Shift: 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM with rotating weekends; shift premium of $0.25 per hour
- Must work overtime when needed
- Performs normal custodial tasks such as removing trash; sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, and buffing floors; carpet extraction; cleaning washrooms, cleaning mirrors, filling hand soap/paper towels/toilet paper
- Performs grounds maintenance activities such as trash pickup and snow/ice removal
- Changes light bulbs; fixes faucets, drain openings, door latches, and door closers
- Assists other maintenance staff as requested
- Performs other duties as required or assigned
- Chemicals and tools used for cleaning and the necessary tools used to complete the task at hand
- Operation and general maintenance of outdoor equipment such as snow blowers, snow pushers, and Bobcats
- Operation of building maintenance equipment
- Computer software including Microsoft Office Outlook (e‑mail and calendar functions), Word, Excel, and Internet navigation
- Smart phone operation (Android or Apple)
- Safe work practices
- Follow oral and written instructions
- Exercise good judgment
- Effectively work to support a customer‑service, team‑oriented, continuous‑improvement facilities maintenance environment
- Troubleshoot and solve problems
- Work independently as a self‑starter
- Remain professional and courteous at all times
- Work respectfully in a diverse and inclusive environment
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Custodial/maintenance experience a plus, with strong attention to detail
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

- This position involves heavy physical demands, such as frequent lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds, with occasional lifts reaching 60 pounds from floor to waist and 50 pounds from waist to shoulder
- Pushing and pulling tasks require up to 50 horizontal force pounds occasionally and 20 hfp frequently
- Constant standing, walking and forward reaching, with frequent bending, squatting, stair climbing, and firm grasping
- Occasionally carrying up to 60‑pound objects bilaterally while walking 50 feet
- Occasional tasks include overhead reaching, kneeling, crawling, and ladder climbing, while fine motor skills and dynamic balance are essential throughout
