Position Title

Building Custodian

Hours and Compensation

Hours:

1:30 pm - 10:00 pm.

Step 0 salary: $21.19 per hour (260 x 8 hr x $21.19 = $44,075.20) – prorated based on start date.

Vacation: 10 days after 1 full year, monthly sick leave, 3 days personal leave.

Suggested Qualifications

High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)

Skills & Abilities

Ability to understand and follow instructions;
Basic Math and Writing skills, email and computer skills.

Physical Demands

Physically demanding job including but not limited to tasks such as walking, standing, bending, stooping, climbing, crouching, crawling, lifting, reaching, using hands to operate and use objects, tools and controls.

Reporting

Reports to:

Building Principal in day‑to‑day operations and human relations. Maintenance Supervisor in repair, maintenance and cleaning procedures; approval of sick leave/vacation/personal, etc. Immediate supervisor is the building principal. When school is closed and the principal isn’t on duty, the Custodial Supervisor becomes the immediate supervisor.

Position Goal

To provide a safe, clean, and healthy environment for children and staff at the building level. Maintains the housekeeping, building security, and preventive maintenance program for the building. Maintain the building (or building space) in a clean, attractive, healthy and safe condition.

Terms of Employment

Twelve (12) month contract or Nine (9) month contract. Eight (8) hours per day with 30 minute unpaid lunch.

Evaluation

One co‑operative review by the Building Supervisor and Maintenance Supervisor.

    • 3.03 Orders supplies & controls inventory.
    • 3.04 Secures the building.
    • 3.05 Develops a planned cleaning schedule for summer work.
    • 3.06 Maintains a safe school environment.
    • 3.07 Sees and initiates action in areas of need.
    • 3.08 Uses time wisely.
    • 3.09 Confers with Principal regularly and/or on a daily basis.
Responsibilities
  • 4.01 Cleans and maintains assigned building space and assists in other spaces when needed.
  • 4.02 Makes minor repairs and reports the need for other repairs to the maintenance supervisor.
  • 4.03 Properly cleans all floor surfaces i.e. sweeps, scrubs, mops and buffs floors.
  • 4.04 Dusts equipment and woodwork or other inside finishes and trim.
  • 4.05 Keeps assigned restrooms thoroughly clean and sanitary.
  • 4.06 Replenishes supplies in a timely manner.
  • 4.07 Empties and cleans waste receptacles.
  • 4.08 Washes windows and walls.
  • 4.09 Assists in moving and arranging furniture and equipment.
  • 4.10 Maintains equipment and materials used in the work.
  • 4.11 Disposes of all trash in a manner established for the building.
  • 4.12 Responsible to receive deliveries to the building.
  • 4.13 Checks operation of freezers and refrigerators during vacation periods.
  • 4.14 In emergencies, performs tasks assigned by the immediate supervisor.
