Head Custodian

Job Description

• Perform a variety of custodial duties as required including cleaning floors, walls, fixtures, whiteboards, carpets and restrooms according to established methods and procedures.
• Perform minor, non-technical repairs as needed; prepare work orders for emergency maintenance; report need for maintenance repairs to appropriate authority.
• Lock and unlock doors and maintain security of the school facility.
• Pick up paper and debris and sweep and clean walkways and entrances.
• Operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums and floor cleaning and polishing machines.
• Inspect assigned areas for safety hazards and compliance with sanitation standards; report safety, sanitation and fire hazards to appropriate authority.
• Must be able to perform heavy physical labor.
• Properly estimate quantity and types of supplies and equipment needed.
• Maintain tools and equipment in a safe, clean and working condition.
• Understand and follow oral and written directions.
• Maintain school buildings in a safe, clean and orderly condition.
• Store equipment, materials and supplies properly.
• Work independently with little direction.
• Meet schedules and time lines.
• Perform special custodial work upon request of faculty.
• Must have a high school diploma or GED or be enrolled and showing progress in a GED program.
• Have the ability to develop a positive relationship with students, teachers, administrators and parents.
• Perform other duties assigned by the principal.
• Must successfully complete all required forms and applications for employment.
• Render health services as necessary after appropriate training.
