Job Summary

Responsible for all aspects of patient and retail meal service at Trenton Hospital. Duties include setting up workstations, preparing and serving meals, handling special dietary requirements, delivering trays to patient care areas, retrieving and returning trays, cleaning and sanitizing work areas and equipment, and supporting safe food handling practices.

Part time, rotating schedule. Total weekly hours: 20. Hours are worked Monday through Friday with activity every weekend.

• Set up and stock workstation for patient or retail meal service.
• Prepare, assemble, and serve patient and retail meals, ensuring quality and portioning standards.
• Adhere to modified and restricted diet requirements for patients.
• Deliver patient trays and supplies to patient care areas, and retrieve soiled trays for return to kitchen.
• Transport food carts within the department and to other locations as assigned.
• Deliver floor stock and assemble products for retail customers.
• Perform cash handling functions in retail areas according to required procedures.
• Break down and sanitize soiled patient trays, wash dishes, utensils, pots and pans, and operate dish machine.
• Maintain and clean kitchen equipment and work area in accordance with safety and sanitation standards.
• Dispose of trash and monitor expiration dates, labeling and storing products appropriately.
• Record food and equipment temperatures as required.
• Identify and communicate opportunities for waste reduction, service improvements, and revenue enhancement.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, hospital departments, and staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Must be able to read, write, speak, and communicate effectively in English.
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn proper lifting techniques and safety precautions.
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn proper use and storage of potentially hazardous cleaning products.
• Strong customer service focus.
• Ability to prioritize, multi‑task, and remain focused in a busy environment.
• High school graduate or equivalent (preferred).
• Food service experience (preferred).

$16.26 to $19.93 per hour, based on experience.
