Job DescriptionThis position is for a custodian at Ohio County High School. Job Class #7609, 8 hours/260 days.
Qualifications- High school diploma or GED certificate.
- Previous experience as a custodian is desired, though not essential.
- Has met health requirements as specified in district personnel policy.
Responsible for the proper and timely completion of all assigned cleaning, ground care, setup, moving, and painting tasks according to established procedures.
Essential Job FunctionsAbility to perform routine custodial activities to maintain buildings, locker rooms, and adjacent grounds in a clean, orderly, and secure condition; use cleaning materials, equipment, and methods per predetermined standards; learn and apply schedules and procedures; follow safety precautions; maintain tools; perform minor repairs; report maintenance needs; conduct heavy physical labor; obey oral and written directions; meet schedules; communicate effectively; inspect facilities for security;
walk, bend, lift, push, and stand for extended periods; work under adverse conditions; provide weekend/holiday/on‑call coverage.
- Practice safety precautions and be safety conscious at all times.
- Report items requiring maintenance or unsafe conditions to supervisor.
- Perform cleaning and sanitation tasks, including disinfecting restrooms, dusting, cleaning walls, collecting trash, vacuuming, mopping, buffing, shampooing, stripping and refinishing floors, sweeping, polishing, replacing lamps, etc.
- Operate and maintain powered cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbing machines, automatic scrubbers, wet/dry vacuums, carpet shampooers, and pressure washers.
- Use and maintain non-powered cleaning equipment such as mops, brooms, cloths, spray bottles, brushes, and custodial carts.
- Perform grounds care tasks: mowing, edging, trimming, watering, fertilizing, reseeding, applying chemicals, sweeping sidewalks, etc.
- Operate and maintain powered grounds care equipment: mowers, edgers, trimmers, blowers, sprayers, spreaders, saws.
- Provide manual labor: moving furniture, setting up tables, loading/unloading trucks.
- Use and maintain non-powered grounds care equipment.
- Move office and school furniture as required.
- Participate in off‑shift, weekend, holiday, and on‑call coverage.
- Demonstrate loyalty and dedication to the Ohio County Schools.
- Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.
