RHS Evening Custodian (8 hours per day / 260 days per year)

TITLE: Custodian

REPORTS TO: Principal;
Maintenance Operations Supervisor

JOB GOAL: To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play, and develop.

• Keep all buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times.
• Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to maintain temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
• Shovel, plow, and/or sand walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps as appropriate.
• Check daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and functioning properly during building occupancy.
• Sweep classrooms daily and dust furniture.
• Clean corridors after school each day and as needed during the day.
• Scrub, hose down, and disinfect toilet floors daily, and clean all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
• Wash all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year, more frequently if needed.
• Keep the grounds free from rubbish.
• Perform yard‑keeping chores such as grass cutting, tree trimming, and other necessary work to maintain safe, attractive grounds.
• Keep all floors clean, attractive, and in good condition.
• Cleans all writing boards.
• Report major repairs needed promptly to the principal.
• Report any damage to school property immediately to the principal.
• Assume responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day, ensuring all doors and windows are secured, turning off all lights (except those left on for safety) and activating the alarm system.
• Conduct an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair.
• Move furniture or equipment within buildings as required for activities and as directed by the principal.
• Conduct daily inspection of playground areas.
• Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal, assistant principal, or superintendent.

• Demonstrate aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
• Hold a valid driver’s license.
• Hold a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Alternative qualifications as determined by the board.
• Complete state‑mandated health examination satisfactorily.

• Performance evaluated annually by the principal.

• Salary commensurate with the Russell Independent Schools Classified Salary Schedule.
• Pay range: $13.70 to $17.90 per hour.
