Maine Veterans’ Homes is seeking a dependable Per Diem Maintenance Worker to help maintain a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for our residents, staff, and visitors.

Maine Veterans’ Homes provides long-term care, skilled nursing, memory care, and residential care services to Veterans, their spouses, and Gold Star Parents. Our team members play an important role in ensuring our residents live in a well-maintained home where they feel respected, comfortable, and cared for.

Position Summary

The Per Diem Maintenance Worker performs a variety of general maintenance and repair duties throughout the facility and grounds. This position helps ensure that building systems, equipment, resident areas, common areas, and grounds are safe, functional, and well maintained.

The ideal candidate is a dependable, hands‑on problem solver who takes pride in maintaining a safe and comfortable environment and can respond effectively to routine maintenance needs as well as unexpected repairs.

Schedule & Availability

This is a per diem position with a flexible, as‑needed schedule based on the needs of the facility.

  • May work up to three days per week, with the possibility of working additional days when facility needs require.
  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Must be available to work any shift, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Schedule may vary based on staffing and operational needs.

Requirements
  • Minimum of two years of maintenance experience required.
  • General knowledge and experience with maintenance and repair functions, including basic carpentry, masonry, electrical work, plumbing, painting, groundskeeping, and custodial functions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot maintenance issues and perform routine repairs safely and effectively.
  • Experience working in a healthcare, long‑term care, or similar environment is helpful.
  • Must possess and maintain a current and valid State of Maine driver’s license.
  • Must be dependable, flexible, and able to respond to maintenance needs throughout the facility and grounds.
  • Must be available to work any shift, weekends, and holidays as needed.
