• Operate commercial laundry equipment and perform complex laundry work in a commercial laundry setting.
• Assist with overseeing the laundry process in the soil sort and dryer areas.
• Promote teamwork while performing all assigned tasks.
• Sort, classify, weigh and record weights, load/unload Continuous Batch Washer (CBW), press, shuttle, large and small commercial washers, dryers, flatwork ironing, unloading conveyor, folding, preparing clothes and linens for delivery, delivery, and routine cleaning of work area.
• Follow HHSC, Facility, and Regional Laundry procedures for reporting time and attend work on a regular schedule.
• Perform tasks within established time frames under supervision from Laundry Worker III, Laundry Manager, Regional Laundry Director, and Laundry Maintenance.
• Perform additional duties, including participation in disaster response, COOP activation, or alternate shift patterns as required.
• Drive a state-owned vehicle as required.
May be eligible for additional pay for work performed evenings, nights, weekends, and at maximum security locations.
Essential Job Functions- Attend work regularly and may be requested to work specific shift schedule.
- Assist in overseeing laundry process in soil sort and clean processing areas.
- Operate CBW, press, shuttle, 300# dryers.
- Operate 300# dryer unload conveyor, commercial washer/extractors, dryers.
- Operate feeder, ironer, folder, stacker, small piece folders.
- Fold linens by hand.
- Maintain clean and safe environment to meet infection control and safety standards.
- Help with pickup, quota count, filling orders, delivery to units/departments.
- Participate in mandatory training to meet HHSC/ABSSLC requirements.
- Knowledge of commercial laundry operation, equipment, laundering techniques and procedures.
- Ability to safely operate commercial laundry equipment.
- Ability to fold neat/quick.
- Ability to distinguish colors.
- Ability to receive and fill orders.
- Ability to use proper lifting techniques and lift/carry 40-50 pounds.
- Ability to sort/throw 20 pounds 6 ft.
- Ability to push, pull, and steer loaded laundry cart of up to 900 lbs.
- Ability to safely drive and operate bobtail type vehicles and mounted hydraulic lift gates.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems or solutions.
- Ability to write clearly and communicate intentions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to follow and give written directions and verbal instructions.
- Ability to read, follow, comprehend, interpret safety rules, operating procedures, maintenance instructions, manuals.
- Must possess a valid Texas driver license or obtain it within 90 days after hire date.
- Applicants with out-of-state driver license must provide certified driving record.
- Twelve months work experience.
- Six months experience in commercial laundry operation, equipment, laundering techniques preferred.
- Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks (CANRS, Nurse Aid, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, List of Excluded Individuals/Entities). Males 18-25 must register with Selective Service.
- All applicants must be at least 18 years of age;
Waco Center for Youth applicants must be 21. - Flexibility in work hours may be required; may require overtime/extended hours.
