Location: Kerrville State Hospital, 721 Thompson Dr, Kerrville, TX
Shift: Day (First day shift) with possible overtime and travel up to 20%

The Custodian II performs moderately complex custodial work to maintain a safe and healthy environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Duties include cleaning, dusting, disinfecting, sanitizing, operating floor‑maintenance equipment, restocking supplies, assisting with inspections and minor repairs, and maintaining custodial equipment and outdoor areas. The role may require participation in disaster response or continuity of operations activities.

• Attend work regularly and comply with agency shift and overtime policies.
• Perform custodial tasks (sweeping, mopping, dusting, cleaning windows, light fixtures, restrooms, and other areas) with high quality and safety.
• Sanitize and disinfect in accordance with training and regulations.
• Maintain interior and exterior areas, empty trash, report needed repairs, and replenish supplies.
• Coach and supervise other custodians as needed.
• Inspect assigned buildings and areas for cleanliness and minor repair needs; perform minor maintenance.
• Document work accurately and timely, protect confidential information, and maintain inventory and equipment records.
• Assist in disaster response or COOP activation as required.

• Knowledge of cleaning methods, standards, and sanitation regulations.
• Knowledge of infection control principles and methods.
• Knowledge of inventory control principles and methods.
• Skill in using custodial equipment and chemicals safely.
• Skill in using and maintaining building maintenance tools and equipment.
• Ability to perform work in a timely manner and stay on task.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, and work on hard floors for extended periods.
• Ability to work harmoniously with coworkers, patients, and patients’ families.
• Ability to work irregular hours.

• Minimum of six months of custodial or environmental services experience.
• Preferred experience in nursing homes, hospitals, residential facilities, hotels, or similar environments.

Salary Range: $2,694.70 - $3,269.08 per month (Monthly pay)

Day shift with possible additional day shift assignments. Position may require overtime, extended hours, and up to 20% travel. Eligibility for evening, night, weekend, and maximum‑security additional pay.

• Pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screening, and required registry checks (CANRS, Nurse Aid, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, LEIE).
• Compliance with HHSC immunization policy and state hospital operating procedures related to immunizations.
• Minimum age: 18 years for state‑operated facilities; 21 years for specific centers.
