Position: Adjunct Instructor, Welding (Key West Campus)

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, and instructs assigned courses to promote student success.
  • Maintains required office hours to provide assistance to students and communication with administration.
  • Responsible for evaluating student learning and objective achievement and providing feedback.
  • Selects appropriate materials and equipment for discipline or program use and ensures proper care and safetyin theiruse.
  • Adheres to and enforces the administrative policies and procedures of the College.
  • Assists in implementing College policies, objectives, and functions in accordance with the College Mission Statement.
  • Responsible for keeping current in the discipline or program areas taught.
  • Assist in College recruitment and retention efforts, as appropriate.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Ability to perform shop practices to industry standards to ensure safety of staff, students, facilities, and equipment.
    • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Ability to perform shop practices to industry standards to ensure safety of staff, students, facilities, and equipment.
    • Knowledge and ability in these specific areas:
      Oxy-Acetylene cutting, welding and brazing, Carbon Arc cutting, blueprint reading for welders, metallurgy, metal fabrication, and the following welding techniques: SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, PAC, FCAW, and metal corrosion.
    • Knowledge of CRAW preferred.
    • Knowledge of underwater welding preferred.
    • Strong student orientation and ability to work with a diverse student population.
    • Understanding of, and commitment to, Equal Access/Equal Opportunity.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
    • Knowledge of College mission, policies, procedures, and services.
    • Proficient in the use of technology.
    Education and Qualifications
    • Associates degree in Marine Engineering, Marine Technology, or Seamanship and two years of relevant work experience, or one or more specific industry certifications, or any associate degree with five years of relevant work experience or one or more of the following specific industry certifications or College Credit Certificate (CCC), or any baccalaureate degree (or higher) from a qualifying field required.
    • Welding (e.g. AWS)
    • Professional Welder CCC
    • Three (3) years’ teaching experience at the community college level or higher is preferred.
    • Three (3) years’ work experience in field is preferred.
    Licenses, Certifications or Registrations
    • A current AWS (American Welding Society) Certified Welder Certification is preferred.
    • Certifications in any or all of the following preferred:
      Oxy-Acetylene cutting, welding and brazing, carbon arc cutting, blueprint reading for welders, metallurgy, metal fabrication, and the following welding techniques: SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, PAC, FCAW, metal corrosion, CRAW, underwater welding are preferred.
    • Eligible for an AWS (American Welding Society) CWE/CWI certificate (Certified Welder Educator/Certified Weld Inspector) is preferred.
    Physical Skills
    • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time and to present oral lectures and demonstrations.
    Environmental Conditions
    • Works inside in an office, classroom, and welding shop environment.
    Compensation

    Adjunct Instructors in the Marine Science and Technology Department earn $628 - $727 per credit hour, based on degree level. Consult the 2024-25 Salary Schedule, available on the College's website, for additional information.
