Custodian

Custodian – Harvard H. Ellis Technical High School, Danielson (Killingly), CT.

• Perform custodial tasks and maintenance of dormitories, classrooms, offices, auditoriums, wards, kitchens, dining rooms and lavatories including outdoor areas.
• Dust, mop, sweep, scrub, strip, wax, and polish floors using appropriate equipment such as floor polishers and buffers.
• Wash, dust, and polish glass including windows, woodwork, walls, furniture and metal equipment.
• Make beds and manage linens, blankets, and clothing within the work area.
• Collect and count soiled laundry and distribute, empty, and sterilize glassware, wash basins, and bedpans.
• Sweep and dispose of trash; report needs for repairs and perform minor maintenance.
• Run errands, inspect buildings for damage, and report conditions to supervisor.
• Change light bulbs, replace fuses, lubricate or tighten door hinges, drawers, and cabinets.
• Replace ceiling or floor tiles, remove snow and ice from stairways and walkways, sand and salt stairways and walkways.
• Move furniture and set up classrooms as needed.
• Perform related duties as required.

• Any experience and training that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above.

• Experience performing custodial work in a school.
• Experience waxing and polishing floors using floor polishers and buffers.
• Experience moving furniture in a school and setting up classrooms.
• Experience removing snow and ice from stairways and walkways around large buildings.
• Experience with deep cleaning and disinfecting large facilities.

• Have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility, visual and auditory acuity to perform duties.
• Must be able to lift moderate to heavy weights.
• A physical examination may be required.
