Position: AIRCRAFT ENGINE MECHANIC with Security Clearance
Duties The primary purpose of this position is: to serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART), to perform scheduled or unscheduled inspections, repairs, replacements, build-up and tear down, flight line maintenance and operational runs of aircraft propulsion systems, and to provide training to reservists in the accomplishment of duties set forth herein. DUTY 1:
Performs troubleshooting on a variety of complete operational aircraft reciprocating or gas turbine engines in aircraft on the flight-line, or rebuilt or modified engines in test cells. Considers the total engine system when troubleshooting or evaluating engine performance, since defects in one area often are shown by symptoms which appear in a different area. Reads and interprets technical orders, manufacturers' manuals, engine records, maintenance bulletins, etc.,

to obtain the technical information needed for troubleshooting, assembling, and trimming engines. DUTY 2:
Disassembles, repairs, and reassembles aircraft engines, their assemblies, and components. Diagnoses problems causing engine malfunction through the use of various test and measurement equipment. Detects mismatched or misaligned parts as a possible cause of damage or malfunction. Determines alternative methods and trade techniques to adapt accepted repair procedures to new or unfamiliar engines or accessory systems, to anticipate the tools and parts required, and to set up the work area.

DUTY 3:
Uses a variety of test equipment, hand, and power tools. Uses measuring instruments common to the trade such as micrometers, borescopes, thickness and stretch gauges, dynamic balancing machines, dial indicators, vibration analyzers, engine analyzers, pyrometers, test benches; and pneudraulic, speed, torque, ratchet, and end wrenches. DUTY 4:
Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work area. Uses and assures proper fit of required personnel protective equipment (PPE) and clothing when handling chemicals and operating machinery. Follows federal and state rules when storing, using, handling, labeling, and disposing of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with environmental standards.

Performs clean-up duties, such as cleaning equipment, sweeping, straightening, and lining up tools and other property in the assigned area. DUTY 5:
Certifies work produced under the USAF Technical Order Program. Requirements Conditions of employment

* May be required to obtain special certification training (i.e., Red X, engine run, etc.) and security clearance.
* Incumbent may be required to travel in military or commercial aircraft when TDY is necessary and tosupport Air Expeditionary Force (AEF) contingencies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8600 Engine Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.
