The Wisconsin Veterans Home in King (WVHK) is a 24/7/365 skilled nursing, long‑term care facility located on the picturesque shoreline of the Chain O’Lakes, off Highway 10 between Stevens Point and Appleton. We are seeking a Custodian Lead to join our housekeeping team.
Position SummaryThe Custodian Lead performs lead‑worker duties for a crew of custodians, training and supervising them in infection control policies, sanitation procedures, floor surface maintenance, equipment operation, and chemical use. The role also includes custodial services for assigned patient‑care and non‑patient‑care areas and provides coverage throughout the campus as needed. All duties are carried out in accordance with safety principles and WDVA policies.
SalaryInformation
Starting wage: $18.00 per hour, with additional compensation for nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime. The position is in pay schedule-pay range 03‑09 and will be set in accordance with the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan.
Job Details- Hours:
7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with rotating weekends and holidays. - Physical demands include climbing, reaching, bending, heavy lifting (occasionally >100 pounds), operating loud or vibrating equipment, and working on ladders or scaffolding.
- Background check and pre‑employment tuberculosis skin test required.
- 12‑month probationary period may apply.
- Position requires availability on an as‑needed basis.
Required:
- Experienced in independently performing housekeeping/custodial duties such as cleaning common areas, offices, occupied rooms, maintaining floors, using sanitation procedures, automated equipment, suitable cleaning products, and chemical handling.
- Experience performing these duties in a commercial, institutional, healthcare, or industrial setting.
- Strong communication, independent work, teamwork, training others, leading a team, problem solving, workload organization, computer use, and knowledge of chemical safety, personal protective equipment, and infection control.
Preferred:
- Experience training another person to complete a task.
- Prior leadership experience in a custodial or housekeeping environment.
