Maintenance Worker Intern - Bays Mountain Park; Temporary​/Seasonal

Provides general facility upkeep, cleaning, and basic maintenance support to help keep City facilities and grounds safe, sanitary, and visitor-ready by completing custodial and semi-skilled maintenance tasks.

• Sweep and mop hallways, stairs, and restroom floors; vacuum carpeted areas.
• Clean and sanitize toilets, urinals, sinks, water fountains; dust and clean surfaces, remove cobwebs.
• Empty trash and wash windows.

• Perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance tasks using hand and power tools (e.g., shovels, rakes, drills, blowers, hand saws, etc.).
• Assist with maintaining facilities and public spaces (walkways, open green spaces, storage areas, etc.) as assigned.

• Complete tasks safely and efficiently; follow established safety standards and procedures.
• Perform basic inspections; keep equipment and vehicles clean and in safe working condition; assist with minor maintenance/repairs of tools/equipment used.
• Keep basic records of work performed as needed.
• Open/close buildings for weekend events as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Ability to perform manual work with periods of physical exertion and potential exposure to adverse weather.
• Ability to follow oral/written instructions and basic safety procedures.
• Ability to work independently and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and the public.
• Valid driver’s license (TN or VA).

• High school diploma/GED (preferred).
• Six (6) months of custodial and/or general maintenance experience.
• Experience working in a team environment.

• Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, equipment, and basic minor maintenance work.
• Knowledge of using hand/power tools and general building maintenance practices.
• Tactful, courteous communication with staff and the public.
• Ability to learn how to safely and efficiently operate a weed-eater, mower, and other landscaping equipment.

• Work may be indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions; may involve cleaning chemicals, noise, and uneven terrain.
• Requires standing/walking for extended periods; bending, lifting, pushing/pulling; and operating tools/equipment safely.
• Requires outdoor work in possibly extreme weather environments, such as high temperatures.
