Position: Water Quality Specialist - All Levels

Under close supervision, the purpose of this position is to perform entry‑level work in support of the Water Quality Crew of Toho Water Authority's water resources systems. In this role, you will work as part of a team of skilled operators and technicians who are tasked with ensuring the valves, water quality management, and firefighting tools are functioning correctly. You will also use these tools to troubleshoot and resolve water quality problems within the water system—reports to the Water Quality Foreman.

Salary:
Water Quality Specialist I: $21.90 - $27.36 Hourly ($45,552.00 - $56,909.00 Annual)
Water Quality Specialist II: $25.10 - $33.41 Hourly ($52,208.00 - $69,493.00 Annual)
* Progression to Senior Water Quality Specialist will be evaluated based on qualifications and years of experience.

Senior Water Quality Specialist: $26.82 - $35.74 Hourly ($55,786.00 - $74,339.00 Annual)

Responsibilities Water Quality Specialist I Responsibilities
  • Performs manual and machine assisted valve operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Operates and maintains auto‑flusher, hydrant and other water quality management tools. Uses these tools and technologies to ensure water is safe, reliable and acceptable for Toho Water Authority’s customers.
  • Performs a combination of manual and semi‑skilled labor and equipment operation for the purpose of maintaining and repairing Toho Water Authority’s fire hydrants.
  • Responds to, and aids in resolving customer water quality concerns.
Water Quality Specialist II Responsibilities
  • Perform unidirectional flushing following a plan to maintain and improve water quality.
  • Operates and maintains auto‑flusher, hydrant and other water quality management tools. Uses these tools and technologies to ensure water is safe, reliable and acceptable for Toho Water Authority’s customers.
  • Performs a combination of manual and semi‑skilled labor and equipment operation for the purpose of maintaining and repairing Toho Water Authority’s fire hydrants.
  • Responds to, and aids in resolving customer water quality concerns.
  • Uses a variety of hand and power tools and equipment to perform assigned duties, including air compressors, saws, pipe wrenches, cutters, shovels, drills, lawn equipment, axes and a forklift.
  • Picks up and transports materials, tools, and supplies; cleans equipment and tools; conducts pre‑trip inspections of vehicles and records findings; performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs on tools, equipment, and vehicles; and notifies supervisor of needed replacements and repairs.
  • Follows safety practices and wears protective gear.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Water Quality Specialist I Qualifications
  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED issued from an approved GED Administrator.
  • Minimum of one‑year relevant experience.
  • Any combination of education and experience which demonstrates the candidate’s ability to perform successfully in this position will be considered.
  • Must be able to successfully demonstrate working knowledge of Water Quality skill set.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Class B Driver’s License with Airbrake and Tanker endorsement.
Water Quality Specialist II Qualifications
  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED issued from an approved GED Administrator.
  • Minimum of two years relevant experience.
  • Any combination of education and experience which demonstrates the candidate’s ability to perform successfully in this position will be considered.
  • Must be able to successfully demonstrate working knowledge of Water Quality skill set.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Class B Driver’s License with Airbrake and Tanker endorsement.
Skills Needed
  • Ability to read and interpret property layouts and street maps in GIS.
  • Ability to properly collect samples and complete chain of custody forms.
  • Working knowledge of flushing mains and service lines.
  • Ability to program auto flushers.
  • Ability to install and program pressure recorders.
