Facilities Maintenance Worker

The Facilities Maintenance Worker performs a variety of general maintenance, repair, and custodial duties to support the safe and effective operation of parish facilities. This role completes routine tasks, assists with basic repairs, and supports cleaning and event setup needs under the direction of the Director of Operations.

    • Performs routine maintenance and minor preventive maintenance for buildings, equipment, and property.
    • Provides general custodial and janitorial services, including cleaning, disinfecting, trash removal, restroom cleaning and restocking, and floor care (sweeping, scrubbing, vacuuming).
    • Cleans and performs basic preventive maintenance on equipment, tools, and building systems.
    • Maintains building interiors by cleaning and polishing furniture, fixtures, mirrors, and equipment; washing windows, counters, walls, and woodwork.
    • Sets up and breaks down furniture and equipment for parish functions and events.
    • Performs minor repairs, including painting, basic plumbing, electrical work, and other routine maintenance; services equipment when able and reports mechanical malfunctions requiring additional support.
    • Cleans, maintains, and ensures proper use of tools and equipment.
    • Identifies, reports, and addresses safety hazards and maintenance concerns.
    • Monitors premises and reports unauthorized individuals or security concerns.
    • Assists with general upkeep of parish facilities as needed.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Requires an appreciation and respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings.     High school diploma or equivalent. Relevant experience in similar position preferred.

    • Must have working knowledge of all building systems, HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, etc.
    • Individual should have the knowledge and skills to diagnose trouble issues, make minor repairs and be able to work with outside vendors to get repairs done to the building systems.
    • Knowledge of the proper use and disposal of hazardous materials, safe handling techniques, and use of proper safety equipment as outlined by OSHA.
    • Must have repair skills for minor equipment used inside or outside.
    • Must be self-motivated and prompt in performing tasks.
    • Must successfully pass Diocesan background screening and Safe Environment Training.

    The working hours of this position are not limited to an 8-hour day. This person will need to be available in the evening and weekends, as needed. Must be willing to work in conditions of stress and function well under pressure.

    Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing 15 feet and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (30 pounds). Exposure to climate changes, uncomfortable temperatures, and fumes. Works with machinery requiring considerable caution.
