This position will remain open until filled with periodic review of applications.
Performs a variety of manual tasks in the maintenance of the County streets and roadways; may be assigned to any division in the Public Works Department.
Qualifications- Education, Certification, & Experience
- Previous experience in the use of machinery and equipment such as light automotive equipment and light to heavy trucks.
- Knowledge of the operation of hand and power tools; e.g., drills, hammers, hand saws, chain saws, power saws; wrenches, shovels, rakes, etc.
- Commercial Driver's License with Manual Transmission Certification (Prior to employment).
- Flagging Certificate (Prior to employment).
- First Aid Certification (May be obtained after employment).
- CPR Certification (May be obtained after employment).
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Language Skills – Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; and effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group settings to customers, clients, and other employees.
- Mathematical Skills – Ability to add and subtract two‑digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s; perform these operations using units of American money, weight measurement, volume, and distance.
- Reasoning Ability – Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed but uncomplicated written or oral instructions; address problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Physical Requirements
- Physical demands: frequent standing, walking, and talking; occasional sitting; use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; lift and/or move up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.

This is an hourly, non‑exempt position with a wage range of $23.80 – $30.11 per hour. The pay range reflects the full pay range for this position for the current fiscal year. Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification.

Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Working ConditionsThe work environment includes wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and outdoor weather. The employee may be exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration. Noise levels are usually moderate.
Work ScheduleThe normal schedule is 8 hours per day, 5 days per week; exact schedules are assigned by management. Attendance standards require employees to be present and on time for each scheduled shift. Absences, lateness, or early departures may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination. Time off may be approved under applicable policies for illness, injury, or other emergencies.
