Position: Maintenance Technician I

Aurora Launch Services (ALS): Aurora Launch Services is a wholly‑owned subsidiary of Alaska Aerospace, established to provide low cost, highly reliable launch services on a contract basis to both government and commercial space launch customers worldwide. The company is headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska, co‑located with Alaska Aerospace.

Position Summary: The Maintenance Technician I performs routine maintenance, grounds, facility, equipment, and operational support tasks under direct or general supervision. Assists with work orders, preventive maintenance, general repairs, equipment operation, and site support activities while developing proficiency in maintenance methods, tools, safety practices, and documentation requirements.

Location: This position is based at the Pacific Spaceport Complex – Alaska in Kodiak, AK. Work is performed on‑site, with occasional travel to other operational sites in support of mission activities.

  • Assist with or perform maintenance, repair, and operational support for company facilities, infrastructure, systems, equipment, roads, grounds, and assigned work areas under general supervision.
  • Support completion of work orders, preventive maintenance activities, projects, and assigned job tasks in coordination with the Department Lead or designee.
  • Assist with or perform maintenance related to water and sewage systems, electrical distribution systems, security systems, building envelopes, interior facility systems, plumbing, mechanical systems, and general site infrastructure, consistent with level of training and experience.
  • Operate assigned support equipment, which may include forklifts, man‑lifts, company vehicles, loaders, graders, cranes, or other equipment as qualified and authorized.
  • Perform grounds and road maintenance, including snow removal, sanding, landscaping, debris removal, cleaning, and general upkeep of assigned areas.
  • Assist with documentation, inventory, material requests, work order updates, and records needed for maintenance and operational support.
  • Support launch, mission, customer, or site operations as required, including extended hours, overtime, weekends, or schedule changes based on operational needs.
  • Follow applicable safety procedures, OSHA guidelines, site rules, security requirements, and company policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Knowledge of general maintenance practices, tools, equipment, materials, and safety procedures appropriate to the assigned level.

Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, vehicles, and maintenance or logistics support equipment as qualified and authorized.

Ability to read, understand, and follow work orders, written instructions, safety procedures, manuals, diagrams, basic drawings, and documentation.

Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with staff, customers, and the public in a variety of settings.

Ability to use basic computer systems, including email, digital timekeeping, and other company systems as required.

Ability to quickly identify problems and efficiently solve them.

Ability to multi‑task in a very dynamic and complex aerospace environment.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.

Required Education & Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Previous experience in maintenance, facilities, construction, groundskeeping, equipment operation, or related work preferred.

Valid driver’s license required. Equipment certifications, endorsements, or other job‑related qualifications may be required or preferred depending on assigned duties.

Work Environment &

Physical Requirements

This position operates in both indoor and outdoor environments, including operational sites and field locations. Duties require frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 50 pounds or more). Work may involve exposure to equipment, machinery, and varying weather conditions. Exposure to loud noises, dust, dirt, and smoke may occur. Use of company‑required and task‑appropriate personal protective equipment is required.
