Overview
Custodian Lead - Recreational Eagle Center requested to join a team of custodial professionals. This position directs custodial coverage on the UW-La Crosse campus Recreational Eagle Center, assists with training, planning assignments, and inspecting facilities to ensure cleaning standards are met. Work is performed under the direction of the Custodial Supervisor. The shift is Monday–Friday from 7:00am–3:30pm with some flexibility due to events.
On-the-job training is provided.
- Schedule, monitor, and communicate with staff; assist with training; monitor and secure facility entrances and report issues.
- Respond to facility emergencies and hazardous situations and escalate according to policies and procedures.
- Maintain organization of supply areas and equipment; document inventory and request additional supplies as needed.
- Document and report repairs, violations, and pest control needs.
- Maintain clean and clear walkways free of debris, litter, snow, and ice.
- Utilize basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned areas and remove waste and recyclables.
- Train new employees and follow up to ensure proper cleaning chemicals and techniques are used; provide additional training as needed.
- Plan assignments to assure adequate staffing; ensure equipment and cleaning supplies are available to complete tasks safely and timely.
- Inspect buildings regularly and report problems to the Custodial Supervisor.
- Maintain physical inventories of supplies and equipment.
- Enforce work rules and safety standards and report any problems to the supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Recreational Eagle Center
Compensation$19.00 per hour
Qualifications Required- Physical strength and stamina to perform required work.
- Ability to read work instructions, schedules, warning signs, and labels.
- Ability to retain and carry out multiple work assignments.
- Knowledge of basic safety precautions including use of caustic and toxic chemicals, safe lifting, proper work clothing, and personal protective equipment.
- Ability to observe and react to hazards and changing conditions in the work environment.
- Ability to work independently and in a team; pleasant, welcoming behavior toward the public and coworkers.
- Ability to wear protective equipment (e.g., respirator, hearing protection, eye protection).
- Must obtain or have the ability to obtain a valid driver’s license and the certification to drive a state vehicle.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Prior custodial experience, including operation of cleaning equipment such as industrial vacuums, carpet extractors, and electric floor buffers.
- Basic computer skills, including online forms, email, and information access.
- Knowledge of methods, tools, supplies, and equipment used in custodial operations.
- One year of management experience.
