La Grange Police Department - Police Officer

The La Grange Police Department is seeking a diverse pool of applicants for the position of Police Officer. Testing Process
  • Initial Eligibility Register:
    Candidates must register during the testing window (July 10 – August 10, 2026) and achieve the minimum passing score. Within 10 days, submit documentation for preference points.
  • Final Eligibility Register & Interviews:
    Preference points applied, candidates participate in oral interviews with the La Grange Board of Fire and Police Commissioners. Final register posted publicly and valid for two years.
  • Selection & Pre-Employment Screening:
    Candidates selected must complete all required pre-employment screenings, including mandatory orientation program. Applicants must acknowledge viewing of the mandatory orientation video by completing the acknowledgment in the application.
  • Qualifications & Requirements
    • Minimum passing score for the written examination: 70%.
    • LEO/CO Physical Ability Test required as described.
    • PST Personal History Statement required within 7 days of passing required exam(s).
    • Minimum Age: 21;
      Maximum Age: 35.
    • Citizenship:
      Legally eligible to work in the US.
    • High School Grad/GED:
      Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
    • Driver's License:
      Must possess a valid driver's license.
    • Felony Conviction(s) as an Adult:
      No adult felony convictions at any time.
    • College Requirement: 60 semester hours from an accredited college or university by time of appointment. Waived if: a) 24 months of honorable active duty in U.S. Armed Forces, not dishonorably discharged; or b) 180 days of active duty in combat duty recognized by the Department of Defense, not dishonorably discharged.
    • Veteran’s Preference: 5 points if applicant served at least one year of active duty and honorably discharged, or served on inactive or reserve duty.
    • Educational/Optional Preference: 5 points for Associate’s degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, fire service, or emergency medical services; 5 points for Bachelor’s degree from accredited institution.
    • Law Enforcement Basic Training: 5 points if completing basic training and serving as part‑time or full‑time law enforcement officer within Illinois.
    • Maximum total preference points any applicant may receive is five.
