General Utility Worker

Position Summary:

The La Grange Public Works Department is seeking a full-time General Utility Worker to perform a variety of semi-skilled to skilled tasks in the maintenance, repair and construction of streets, water and sewer systems and related Public Works and utility facilities and urban forest.

The position requires general construction knowledge and the ability to operate a variety of heavy trucks and equipment for the repair, maintenance and construction of the Village's infrastructure. Desired skills for the position includes general knowledge of water, sewer and street reconstruction, concrete forming and finishing, and tree trimming and maintenance.

Experience with water main installation, maintenance, or repair, as well as snow plowing, is a plus but not required. Must have an excellent work record and be able to work overtime and be accessible during off work hours for emergencies.

Requirements:

Qualified candidates must have a high school diploma or GED. Prior experience as General Utility Worker, laborer or maintenance worker preferred. The position requires the ability to obtain an Illinois Class B Commercial Driver's License with Air Brakes and Tanker endorsement within six (6) months of employment. State of Illinois Water Operator License strongly preferred, but not required.

Offer of employment is conditioned on successful completion of a physical exam, background check including reference checks, and drug/alcohol screening. This position is represented by the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 150.

Salary & Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $58,074 to $81,910. The Village offers a generous benefit package including but not limited to:
