Maintenance Superintendent I
The Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Adult Institutions operates 13 correctional facilities that house Kentucky's adult inmate population. The mission of DOC is to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth and to provide a safe, secure and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out the mandates of the legislative and judicial processes; and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquire skills which facilitate non-criminal behavior.
Kentucky State Reformatory is seeking applicants for a Maintenance Superintendent I position to perform maintenance duties on the grounds of the institution and determines work assignment to the inmate workers assisting in maintenance responsibilities.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Identifies maintenance needs or repairs and performs basic repairs of plumbing, electrical, and other maintenance issues.
- Prioritizes and verifies completions of work orders.
- Requisition s maintenance tools and supplies and needed.
- Supervises and assists offenders in daily maintenance and repair tasks while maintaining a safe and secure working environment.
- Tracks assignment of tools and parts.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:
High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR
SKILLS:
Four years of building maintenance, grounds maintenance, general trades, skilled trades, or mechanical maintenance experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for
EXPERIENCE:
Formal training in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.

Working Conditions
Work will involve some exposure to unpleasant working conditions. Will be on call 24 hours a day.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
