Operations & Maintenance Technician II Welder/Fabricator
At the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, we deliver reliable water to a region with 19 million people—and to accomplish this, we rely on a team of talented employees: innovators, problem-solvers, and collaborators who make it all possible.
The Welder/Fabricator II will perform and/or assist in the practices and procedures of laying out and completing welded/fabricated equipment and parts to repair and maintain a wide variety of water utility assemblies, parts and equipment. Routine tasks include servicing critical components ranging from large gates, valves, pipelines, shafts, impellers, and housings to secondary structures such as cabinets, vaults, catwalks, guard rails, and drain covers.
Governed by established trade, procedural, and regulatory code practices, the technician effectively builds, maintains, and improves equipment and fixtures composed of metal, metal alloys, or other related materials. Ultimately, the Welder/Fabricator II performs and assists with these tasks to support the operational core of water and power reliability throughout the conveyance and distribution system, treatment and hydroelectric plants, and other primary facilities.
The Welder/Fabricator II must possess baseline experience and skills in general welding and fabrication methods, alongside an understanding of trade codes and safety practices. The position requires the ability to work with varied metal alloys, interpret design structures, and safely navigate industrial water utility environments.
This opening for the Operations & Maintenance Technician II Welder/Fabricator is in the Manufacturing Services Unit of our Operations Support Services Section at our Weymouth Facility in La Verne.
