Position: Full-Time General Maintenance Worker I

Salary Level: Start: $12.00

SUMMARY

Under direct supervision, this individual will perform manual labor of an unskilled and semi-skilled nature.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Pick up trash around public buildings.

Sweep and mop floors; dust and polish furniture; collect and remove waste; wash walls and windows; clean restrooms and replenish supplies; and unstop sinks and toilets and report the need for repairs.

Deliver supplies, run errands, sweep sidewalks, pick up litter, cut grass, trim hedges, rake leaves, tend flower beds and replace light bulbs.

Perform any other assigned duties.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to understand and follow simple oral instructions.

Knowledge of operation and maintenance of general cleaning equipment.

Regular prompt attendance is an essential function to this position.

The ability to get along and promote a harmonious working environment with vendors, supervisors, citizens, and co-workers is an essential function of this position.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid Louisiana Driver's License.
