General Description
This position requires semi-skilled and manual work maintaining various grounds, fields, cemeteries, and parks.
ResponsibilitiesEssential functions include:
- Maintain grounds, fields, cemeteries, and parks by mowing, weeding, tilling, raking, fertilizing, digging, and other manual tasks; assist in tree trimming and concrete/asphalt work.
- Prepare fields for athletic activities such as lining and raking.
- Install turf, seed fields and parks, and maintain irrigation systems.
- Maintain equipment and facilities through manual labor and semi‑skilled work.
- Perform litter control, clean restrooms, and set up picnic and other areas.
- Operate vehicles and medium to heavy equipment, performing preventative maintenance on them.
- Make written and oral reports.
- Inform and direct the public in the use of facilities.
- Perform janitorial services.
- Respond to emergencies after hours, on weekends and holidays.

Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesAll employees must possess knowledge of general written standards and procedures, ability to read, interpret, and follow procedural policy manuals, and respond positively to supervision. Critical skills include:
- Knowledge of facilities maintenance functions.
- Knowledge of landscape maintenance and turf installation.
- Knowledge of tools and equipment related to work.
- Knowledge of grounds‑keeping practices and principles.
- Ability to operate light equipment.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor in various weather conditions.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Skill in operation and preventive maintenance of equipment and related tools.
High school graduate or GED and one (1) year of maintenance experience involving custodial activities. Valid Florida Driver’s License; CDL license preferred. Background check, pre‑employment physical, and drug screen required.
Essential Physical Skills- Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over)
- Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction)
- Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid)
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing
- Walking, standing, kneeling, bending, stooping
- Driving, operating equipment
- Works outside in various weather conditions.
- Works with chemicals (insecticides and herbicides).
- Works at heights (up to 15 feet).
