Position: Custodian - Second Shift (12 Month)

Description

The Custodian provides custodial services to ensure safe, healthy and enjoyable spaces for all Lake Forest High School District students, staff, and visitors.

Salary and Benefits
  • Base Starting Rate - $21.80/Hour
  • Personal, Vacation, and Sick Day Leave provided

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to obtain a valid Non-CDL License for the purpose of transporting students
  • Custodial experience in a K-12 environment (preferred)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and positive problem solving attitude
  • Comfortable and pleasant demeanor in busy environments

Essential Functions
  • Sweeps, mops, vacuums, scrubs, and refinishes floors; cleans, dusts and polishes furniture; washes windows and walls; cleans restrooms; disposes of rubbish, changes lights, etc.; makes certain all areas of the building and assigned work area are kept in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition according to industry and/or district standards
  • Picks up litter within the schools and on school grounds
  • Cleans the cafeteria after student lunches or events
  • Assures safety during inclement weather by shoveling, salting, and providing slip protection on wet floors
  • Applies cleaning chemicals according to established safety procedures
  • Adheres to safety measures for cleaning, lifting, moving, and operating equipment
  • Performs minor repair and maintenance as authorized by Maintenance Supervisor
  • Removes extraneous dirt/markings from interior and exterior vertical/horizontal surfaces (walls, doors, etc.)
  • Advise Maintenance Supervisor on matters relating to mechanical equipment and/or building maintenance
  • Performs painting to walls, rails, playgrounds and other areas of the school
  • Keeps all equipment in a good state of repair and cleanliness
  • Performs event set up, tear down and clean up
  • Delivers (with district vehicle) mail (twice per day), food, and supplies to all district buildings
  • Provides transportation for district employees to and from train depot
  • Shovels and salt sidewalks and entrances, as needed (winter hours vary based on building needs, including weekends)
  • Maintains inventory and requests cleaning supplies and materials
  • Transport students using district vehicle as needed
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned by direct supervisor
  • Adheres to Board of Education policies and procedures
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, reach, grasp, feel, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull, and lift. Repetitive motions are required. The employee must lift and/or move up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 80 pounds of force frequently, and up to 50 pounds of force constantly.

Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Elevated work on ladders and aerial lifts is also required.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly subject to inside and outside environmental conditions and is subject to loud noises, heat, cold, humidity, fumes, odors, dust, mists, gasses, chemicals and hazards associated with moving mechanical parts and vehicles.
