General Description
This is a maintenance position that cares for public and City buildings, facilities, and grounds. Work involves responsibility for the efficient performance of various tasks in and around public and City buildings and facilities. Work follows established procedures, but specific instructions on unusual jobs or problems may be given. Work is subject to inspection by a superior to maintain established standards of cleanliness and compliance with instructions.
- Coordinate events through contact with a lessee.
- Serve as the first point of contact on the day of rental for all event-related operations.
- Show the building to prospective clients.
- Review plans, ensuring rental components (tables, chairs, etc.) can be set up as requested by the client; offer alternative solutions if not feasible.
- Act as a point of contact during an event.
- Handle after‑school pick up for Simpson Park and Coleman Bush.
- Set up and break down rental components (as defined above).
- Assign buildings or complexes to open and close.
- Sweep, mop, wax, and polish floors; wash walls, woodwork, and Venetian blinds; dust books and desks; shampoo, extract, and bonnet‑buff carpet.
- Pick up litter, empty bottles, leaves, tree and shrub trimmings; sweep walkways; mow grass and edge walkways; plant, fertilize, and water flower beds, grass, and shrubbery.
- Raise and lower the American flag and other flags as appropriate; move furniture and equipment; issue supplies, tools, and materials; run errands as requested; deliver mail to various city offices.
- Clean restrooms and replenish supplies; unclog sinks and toilets; report the need for repairs.
- Secure buildings and check heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units; make minor maintenance repairs; replace light bulbs; install light switches; replace fuses; repair door locks; replace window glass; make basic furniture repairs.
- Set up and tear down meeting rooms for public use.
- Participate in and/or facilitate training to support departmental or city initiatives and requirements.
- Work overtime or alternate hours as necessary for efficient department operation.
- Position is designated as Mission Critical.
- High school diploma from an accredited school or a GED.
- May be required to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must possess and maintain a valid telephone number.
All City of Lakeland positions are subject to testing (written, oral, performance, computerized, interview, and/or any combination). Candidates selected for testing will be notified via email or telephone.
