Building Maintenance, Maintenance Worker
As a Semi‑Skilled Laborer with the Department of Human Services, you will help keep Norristown State Hospital campus clean, orderly, and functioning well. This job offers variety and a steady routine with tasks that matter to the daily operations of the facility. You will work with skilled staff across many areas of the hospital. This role is a strong opportunity for someone who likes active, meaningful work.
Responsibilities- General Support: Carry out assigned maintenance tasks across multiple shop areas
- Grounds Care: Maintain outdoor spaces by cutting grass, raking leaves, and removing debris
- Roadwork Tasks: Perform repairs on blacktop, cement roads, sidewalks, parking lots, curbing, gutters, and catch basins
- Repairs Assistance: Help with basic repairs in plumbing, painting, electrical, and steam systems
- Equipment Handling: Operate lawn care machines and assist with moving or hauling materials
- Facility Upkeep: Prepare areas for painting, clean piping systems, and help maintain walkways and roadways
- Seasonal Tasks: Shovel snow and support other weather related needs around the facility
- Full‑time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch. Your schedule may change based on operational needs.

- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non‑negotiable.
- One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction.
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- You must be in possession of a valid PA non‑commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
- You must meet the PA residency requirement.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
- Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
